Russian hair wigs, made the way the material deserves
Russian hair is the rarest raw material in wigmaking. It is naturally fine in denier, strong at the cuticle, and available in true natural shades — from cool blondes to deep browns — that require little processing. Every Beka Wigs piece is built from cuticle-aligned Russian and European hair, hand-tied into the cap, and hand-finished by founder Rivka Betito in our Brooklyn studio.
Why Russian hair holds its value
Most of the world's wig hair is processed in an acid bath that strips the cuticle, then coated in silicone to feel soft — a finish that washes away within months. Russian hair is different at the source. Collected in single-donor bundles and never stripped, it keeps its cuticle layer intact and aligned in one direction. That is what lets a piece move, reflect light, and age like hair growing from the scalp. It can be colored, heat-styled, and washed for years.
Construction: where rare hair becomes a wig worth wearing
Raw material is only half the piece. Each wig here is hand-tied — individual knots set into the cap — with a lace top or silk top for a natural parting space, and a hairline finished knot by knot. Explore the construction options: Silk Top Lace Front Wigs, Lace Top Wigs, and the full vocabulary of the house in The Signature Collection.
Sourcing you can ask about
All Beka Wigs hair is European and Russian origin — never Indian, never brand-blended. Per-piece sourcing confirmation is available on request, and our hair provenance page explains how selection works. If you are comparing pieces, our guide to what makes a wig look real covers the details to check before buying anywhere.
Frequently asked questions
What is special about Russian hair wigs?
Russian hair is fine, strong, and unprocessed, with the cuticle intact and aligned. It moves and shines like growing hair and lasts for years with basic care — which is why it is the material of choice at the top of the market.
How much do Russian hair wigs cost?
True Russian and European hair wigs start around $2,800 and range past $9,000 for long lengths and made-to-measure work. Prices far below that usually mean processed or blended hair sold under a Russian label.
How can I tell real Russian hair from processed hair?
Run a strand between your fingers from end to root: intact cuticle resists slightly against the grain. Processed hair feels identical in both directions and often looks glassy rather than naturally reflective. Ask the seller for sourcing confirmation — a serious house will provide it.
Do Russian hair wigs work for sheitels?
Yes — Russian and European hair is the standard for high-end sheitels. Our sheitel buyer's guide covers the differences in construction and coverage.
How long does a Russian hair wig last?
With reasonable care, years — not months. Our Built to Last guide explains how construction and care determine lifespan.
